Checking a company before you trade with it starts with the Companies House register. It is free, and it is also easy to over-trust.
What the register gives you
Companies House says you can download company information for free. A company record shows its status and registered office, filing history, current and resigned officers, people with significant control, charges and any insolvency notices. A free API offers the same data to developers, with a documented limit of 600 requests per five minutes.
What it does not prove
The register records what companies file. Identity verification for directors and people with significant control only became mandatory on 18 November 2025, and existing directors have a 12-month transition period, so some records are not yet verified. The House of Commons Library also notes that Companies House does not pre-verify all company addresses. Treat a register check as a starting point for due diligence, not the end of it.
Where Audit1 fits
Audit1 is one of Rohan Corporation Group's developing tools. Its prototype uses live Companies House data for UK company searches and presents core filing and status information in a more guided way. Deeper checks are planned as suitable data sources are connected.
RCG is building it step by step: live, supportable data first, then further checks as the underlying sources become available.
