Fellowship meets the digital front door: the next livery introduction may begin with a search

More introductions to a livery company now begin online. Here is what a searcher needs to find, and how a Company can provide it.

Many people now meet a livery company for the first time before they enter a Hall, attend an event or speak to a member. They meet it through a search result, a shared link or a recommendation.

The front door has changed

The City of London Corporation says the livery companies share an ethos of supporting trade, education, charity and fellowship. There are 114 companies and about 45,000 members, according to the Livery Committee. For someone outside the network, the first question is simply where to begin.

That does not weaken tradition. It creates another route towards it.

How Alive! helps

Alive! brings Company information and discovery together so people can move from curiosity to real-world understanding. It supports Companies rather than directing anyone, and a Clerk can add search words, correct a profile or share a calendar feed by emailing [email protected].

Immediate action: search for your own Company as a stranger would, and check where that search leads.
